GYPSYHAWK began in October of 2008 after bassist, vocalist and founder of the band, Eric Harris, left the thrash metal touring warriors in SKELETONWITCH and decided to start something new. While originally from Ohio, Harris decided to remain in California following his departure from the group, and began forming what would soon become GYPSYHAWK.
After recruiting guitarist Andrew Packer, the band put the other two pieces together with Joe Fabio on drums, and Scotty Conant on second/lead guitar. With all of the proper components in line, the band was ready to begin writing their debut LP, “Patience and Perseverance”.
Having experiemented with various songs and sounds, Harris and crew decided that the they wanted to take a more rock n’ roll approach, hailing influence from the groove and classic songwriting of greats such as Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath. After months of rehearsing and honing their craft, the band self-produced a demo which got into the hands of Creator-Destructor Records, landing the band a contract with the label only weeks later.
In March of 2010, GYPSYHAWK entered Castle Ultimate Studios in Fremont, CA with acclaimed producer Zack Ohren (Animosity, Light This City, All Shall Perish) for the production of their debut full-length. Clocking in at over an hour, “Patience and Perseverance” reminds metalheads and fans of rock n’ roll alike why the classics are still adored and held in such high regard in the 21st century. The band brings back the sound of the 70’s with a heavier and modern twist, creating a throwback that simultaneously stands out on its own as truly unique in a scene so over-saturated with younger and younger bands trying their hand at imitating the metalcore and deathcore trends of the era.
With their debut record hot off the press, GYPSYHAWK is set to hit the road in July/August in support of the release, which will be followed by consistent and relentless North American and International touring. “Patience and Perseverance” hits stores on July 6th, 2010. |
